Awaken Your Worth: A CBT Workbook by Leanne Astbury (front cover)

People pleasing, perfectionism and anxiety are not the problem. They are signals. And they are all pointing to the same place.

Does any of this feel familiar?

Maybe you are the person everybody can rely on. Helpful. Capable. The one who is always there. But underneath that, you might be exhausted from constantly thinking about everybody else.

  • You say yes when you really want to say no, then feel resentful or drained afterwards.
  • You notice the slightest change in someone's tone and wonder if you have done something wrong.
  • You replay conversations in your head, analysing what you said.
  • You feel guilty for putting your own needs first.
  • You worry about disappointing people or being thought badly of.
  • You work hard, achieve things, and still move the goalposts on yourself.
  • You feel responsible for other people's moods and emotions.

Maybe you have tried to change this before

You probably already know what you are "supposed" to do. Set better boundaries. Say no. Stop overthinking. Care less about what people think. Be kinder to yourself.

Knowing has never been the problem. The problem is that nobody has helped you understand why doing those things can feel so difficult in the first place. When you have spent years learning that keeping people happy, getting things right or avoiding disapproval is what keeps you safe, you don't simply switch those patterns off.

That is where Awaken Your Worth starts.

What's inside

Three parts. One complete framework.

01

Understand

Explore how your self-worth was formed, what happened in those early years, and why your mind developed the patterns it did. Not to blame anyone, but to finally make sense of it.

02

Unlock

Identify the beliefs, behaviours and emotional patterns keeping you stuck. Using CBT techniques, you will begin to recognise what is running the show, and learn how to challenge it.

03

Rebuild

Begin building a different foundation: one where your worth is no longer dependent on achievement, approval, being needed, or how much you do for everyone else.

What you get

  • A structured CBT workbook to hold, write in and keep
  • The full three-part framework: Understand, Unlock, Rebuild

★★★★★
After spending most of my life as a perfectionist, which was causing day to day anxiety and eventually burnout, Leanne has not only helped me understand this behaviour, but has also helped me change my thoughts. My general day to day anxiety has now gone and I feel so much lighter without the weight of constant worry or fear of failing. — Gemma, five star Google review

Why I wrote this

I know what it is like to look capable on the outside and feel completely different on the inside. For years, I thought I was just a nice person. Helpful. Reliable. Always there when somebody needed me. What I couldn't see was how much of myself I was giving away in the process.

I said yes when I wanted to say no. I worried about disappointing people. I put enormous pressure on myself to get things right. And no matter what I achieved, there was always another standard to reach.

I didn't need somebody to tell me to "set better boundaries." I needed to understand why I found it so hard to choose myself. Understanding what sat underneath those patterns changed the way I saw myself, and it became part of what led me to train as a CBT Psychotherapist.

I wrote Awaken Your Worth from both sides of that experience: as someone who has done this work herself, and someone who has sat with hundreds of clients trying to make sense of their own patterns.

What actually changes

This is not a book about becoming a different person, and it is not a set of techniques for managing your anxiety, your people pleasing, or the standards you hold yourself to. It is something quieter, and far bigger than that.

It is a chance to finally understand the person you have spent so many years trying to change.

Think of a tree

Most approaches work at the level of the leaves, trying to fix each behaviour one at a time. Say no. Stop overthinking. Lower your standards. Be kinder to yourself. This workbook takes you beneath the ground instead, to the roots that have quietly been feeding all of it. Because once you understand the roots, the leaves finally start to make sense.

So much of this work is not learning what to do differently. You most likely know that part already. The real work is understanding why it has been so hard to do. As you go, you will begin to understand:

  • why you say yes when part of you is quietly screaming no
  • why a single mistake can feel like proof of something much bigger about you
  • why you keep replaying what other people think, long after they have stopped thinking it
  • why resting can feel so uncomfortable
  • why you can achieve so much and still feel as though it is never quite enough
  • why you abandon your own needs to keep everyone else steady
  • and why simply knowing what you "should" do has never, on its own, been enough to change it

This is the difference that matters:

Not simply that you will learn to say no, but that you will understand why saying no ever felt so difficult in the first place.

Not that you will stop being a perfectionist, but that you will understand what you are afraid a mistake might say about you.

Not that you will learn to manage your anxiety, but that you will begin to understand what sits underneath it, and what your mind has been trying to protect you from.

And slowly, as the picture comes together, something begins to shift.

  • From believing there is something fundamentally wrong with you, to understanding that your patterns developed for a reason.
  • From living by everyone else's needs and opinions, to remembering who you are and what you actually want.
  • From measuring your worth by how much you achieve, produce or please, to seeing that it was never something you had to earn.
  • From treating every thought as fact, to learning you do not have to board every train your mind sends into the station.
  • From abandoning yourself to feel safe or accepted, to learning to stand beside yourself, even when that feels uncomfortable.

Perhaps the problem was never that you were not good enough. Perhaps, somewhere along the way, you simply learned to believe you were not.

You were never supposed to earn your worth. You already had it.

Start understanding yourself differently today.

A structured CBT workbook for going beneath people pleasing, perfectionism and anxiety, and beginning to rebuild the relationship you have with yourself.
